At times I love detail shots more than the outfit as a whole. It makes me question whether the parts are, in fact, greater than the whole. In fact, "even the grandest project depends on the success of the smallest components." This explains why I am often entranced by the lines of a rose-shaped earring, the intracacies of a beautiful neckline, or the glow of a single irregular pearl. Are you with me or is it just my OCD? ;)

the embroidery on a vintage shirt ♥ a pair of mismatched earrings - one a rose, the other a gold bow ♥ a flower pin anchoring a twist of hair ♥ the hem of a lace dress and the cream of a vintage slip

a scarf tied in a 50s knot ♥ an embroidered neckline ♥ a glowing pink pearl with a floral top ♥ a sterling silver camellia ring - the most beloved souvenir from Luang Prabang, Laos ♥ white silk floral detail and sheer white pleats

oh I'm definitely with you there! I love paying attention to the little details (Love those mismatched earrings btw!).
ReplyDeleteThose are great shots. I always have difficulty taking good pictures of small objects.
the mismatched earrings are a new obsession of mine. they're from portmans and they came in a set - one mismatched pair, one pair with just the gold bows, and one pair of bronze balls
ReplyDeleteas for the shots - most of those are the patient photographer's (i.e. the boy :)) and he is very good - i think its a combination of a good lens, knowing what distance it can handle before it goes crazy, seeking out the light, and a good eye for cropping photos is a great help to get these macro shots. hope this is helpful.
I'm with you. My favourite photos of my wedding outfit were the detail shots - the neckline, the pearls, the jewellery - the small things that added up to a perfect day. :)
ReplyDeleteMost definately NOT O.C.D! Detailing is great because styles these days just seem recycled but the patterning, the hem, the embellishments etc can really make a garment just POP
ReplyDeleteThe suggestions you gave me a fab! But i am a starter seamstriss-type lol so i'm just thinking of lopping alot of the hem off haha
Happy guy fawkes too!
What pretty photos, I love detail shots, and I love all your laceyness. Tut tut, shopping might not get in the way of your political and social involvement, but apparently it can cause you to miss out on strawberries. Always worth checking for before you hit the shops... what did you buy?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful ring, and that detail on the lace shirt is absolutely beautiful!! Great inspiration for my big day when ever that may be, tehee.
ReplyDeletethe pearl necklace with the little bit of floral on the side makes the photo so special :) also, i love all that lace and embroidery!!
ReplyDeleteThank you everybody! It always makes me smile to see all your sweet comments.
ReplyDeletelouise: i bought some books about fashion. hehe.
