the movie review that couldn't...

I watched Lars von Trier's Melancholia in an overheated movie theatre with my jacket wrapped around my knees. I'd gobbled up my fig and honey ice cream fifteen minutes before the movie even started and was left to stare jealously at everyone else lapping away at theirs (two scoops of cookies & cream, chocolate- dipped black doris plum and creme fraiche, plain one scoop chocolate). My neck ached from the crushing anxiety and the overwrought Wagner. When Melancholia was rising, turning Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kirsten Dunst's faces blue, I looked at everyone watching and their faces were blue too. As people clapped when the screen turned black, the man next to me murmured, "Well that ruined the movie." I didn't know to what he was referring.

I wanna see Melancholia too! Chocolate-dipped black doris plum and creme fraiche sounds so good, almost way too good for a movie theatre, so fancy :D

Your writing is always so engaging, I love your posts! Melancholia is definitely on my 'to see' list. Your floral dress is very lovely, and I really appreciate how your umbrella matches with your outfit :D (p.s. thank you for being my first fan on weardrobe haha, I don't feel like such a newbie now!) xxx

Wonderful non-review gorgeous Ana... :) and I love the sound of eating ice cream at the movies. I've had bonbons but never full on ice cream. Sounds like wonderfully messy fun!

I think you're right. I was joking with my boyfriend that maybe I appreciated Moon River more because we were watching at a park in nyc (sorta, brooklyn), the screen was right in front of the river, and there was what was very close to a full moon that night. =P
In regards to the man at your theatre making that cryptic comment, I think I know what he means. Whenever I watch indie films or any movie that feels more thoughtful/meaningful than say like the Smurfs movie or something, I find the less people are in the theatre, the better.

I still have to go see that movie. I've heard some wonderful things about it, but I like to reserve my judgement until afterwards :) I'm pretty finicky with stuffs like that.

Fig and honey ice cream sound delicious! I find it hard to restrain myself from finishing movie treats before a film starts!
