I've been toying with the idea of introducing myself to the rest of the people living on my apartment floor. We're like ghosts to each other. I open the door and catch a fleeting glimpse of a back retreating down the stairs or I walk down the hallway and hear faint laughter wafting from inside. There are probably over fifty people in this apartment building. But they are all unknown to me. Its like strangers sharing a long ride up an elevator. Looking everywhere but at each other. Making sure not to touch accidentally. Counting the seconds until the door opens to let us out.

i like the elevator analogy.
ReplyDeletelove the print of your mini dress. so cute on you. feels like spring, nice cool weather to have a cup of coffee outside.

believe it or not, i've been living where i've been living for the past 5 years, and i've only talked to 3 of my neighbours. i've seen the remaining 2 neighbours at night when i'm going to sleep, because they emerge from the house to go out. when i leave for uni in the morning, they roll into the driveway, looking dishevelled and unbelievably tired.
ReplyDeleteHey girl, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your lovely comment :) Love the dress you're wearing!
ReplyDeleteAs for introducing yourself to your neighbors, I have mixed feelings about that one. I used to be super sweet and chatty with hall mates when I lived in apartment buildings. Unfortunately I later found out half of them were crazy. LOL!
It's so strange the world we live in, you put it perfectly. Gone are the days when you were new to the neighbourhood and people would come by and introduce themselves...bring you baked goods, maybe that only happens in the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteLook at you cutie! So pretty that dress!
ReplyDeleteWe live in a very small apartment block - there are only six flats in all and my boyfriend and I know every person here - I think it's a matter of security when it's a small block. But 50! That's quite a challenge I think! When I lived in a larger block by myself I didn't know anyone - also I'm terribly shy - my boyfriend is a total extrovert though which helps!
Hope you have a lovely week! XOXO's (Glad you guys were OK with the tsunami too...)
cute dress and lovely sunny spot for the photo's!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about neighbors in an apartment building but sometimes it can turn sour and there is nothing worse that being confronted with a crazy all the time ...
That said you might make an amazing friend out of it. Hard to judge!
super kawaii!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow if that isn't the sweetest dress I don't know what is! Look at that print and those sleeves :) The first photo is beautiful, dear Ana. I love the light pouring in from the window and the soft edge it gives everything. It's as if I can feel the warm summer sun radiating through your photo.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really know our neighbors either. Its weird that we all live in the same building but don't know anything about each other.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress, Ana B.
ReplyDelete♥
I've been living in the same house for almost my whole life and to this day I only know a handful of neighbors. Maybe this is less strange than I think? Your dress is gorgeous, and that first picture wonderful beyond words.

How true. We do live in a very disconnected world nowadays sadly.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress, so floaty and dreamy:)
xx
True. In France it's quite common to talk to your neighbours while here in Norway it's not. So when I first moved in, it felt natural to say hi to my neighbours, it took a couple of time before they start saying hi back at me but we're getting there :)
ReplyDeleteOur neighbour is an old lady, I once met her carrying grocery bags up the stairs and offered to help her, completely natural for me from my French point of view, completely surprising for her, she couldn't stop saying thank you thank you and how sweet I was...
This has to be the longest comment I ever wrote on a blog post! Ha!

I love that floral print.
ReplyDeleteI don't know my neighbors either. It's pretty sad. I wish I did.
Cute dress. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd getting to know your neighbors is so weird. It's like no one will ever introduce themselves, but once someone makes the leap, people suddenly become so friendly. People are very good at ignoring each other when they live in large complexes.
I really love that dress! The shoes and bracelets tie the outfit together qute nicely too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully written post!! I love your dress and flats! You look very pretty! xoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeletevery cute summery dress! looks perfect on you.
ReplyDeletePS. I would love it if you checked out my blog ;) http://diyainherstilettos.blogspot.com/
i've always had a tendency to be distant towards my neighbors but once the ice is broken, it's easy. go for it! maybe you could throw and apt party or something? get everyone to mingle.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteI introduced myself to my neighbours when I moved here, but I think it scared them more than anything. ;)
I had just met some of our apartment neighbors, but then we moved out! For some reason apartments always feel like that to me -- like everyone is busy coming and going or just staying shut up inside. I was really startled when we moved into a house this past week and met 4 of our neighbors that very day! One old couple even invited us in their house. It's been an exciting difference.
ReplyDeleteYou're looking adorable! :)
you look fabulous in that adorable little dress!
ReplyDeletei am good friends with one neighbor, and i barely say hello to the others. it is so strange. somehow i think we would help each other if we were in need, but it is weird that none of us really bother to get to know each other. humph. i chalk that up to big city life, but maybe that isn't really the reason.
love the lighting in your photos. so great. :)
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you just start talk with them? "You have a nice skirt" or "Great shoes! Where did you buy them?" or something like that.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, as always and nice dress!
Peace and love!
I love that you feel a bit like a ghost and then your first photo has such a hazy, haunting quality to it!
ReplyDeleteThe last apartment I lived in (forever ago now) was the same way -- no one ever talked to anyone else. This was until one night when the power went out for several hours, and lots of people opened their doors in the hallway to share candles, matches, and information about the power :)
I don't know anyone in my apartment building either! It's annoying at times. I love this dress - it's so cute and I'm completely jealous of the fact that it is warm enough for you to have bare legs! :) x
ReplyDeleteapartments are so strange like that! how can people so close avoid each other so well?
ReplyDeleteyou look beautiful today!
lovely pictures and dress. So jealous of the weather u have there!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures & blog.
ReplyDeleteAdorable dress!
xx Rebecca
