hotel club sandwich

There's nothing better than room service in a fancy hotel room. There's always a club sandwich in the room service menu of fancy hotel rooms. That's all I ever order. I look forward to hotel club sandwiches like my mother and brother look forward to dining in the lobbies of hotel restaurants.

Fancy hotel rooms set off the miser in me. There'll be a knock at the door and a maid offering turn-down service. My husband will turn it down, but I will overrule him and hastily summon the woman back. "What are you thinking?" I will hiss at him. "Turn down service means free stuff." Turn-down is barely over before I've scoffed the chocolates on the pillows, glugged the bottles of water, and shoved my feet into a pair of awkwardly-sized hotel slippers. Sometimes, when there's a pillow menu, I order every single type of pillow just because I can. That's the kind of nerd boss I am.

By checkout time, my husband will be on edge, nervous at the thought of being accused of an as-yet unidentified hotel crime. That's because I will have forced him to stash a sack of free toiletries that will tip him over the edge of the carry-on weight limit required by aviation rules. Our hotel room will be stripped as bare as legally possible. I technically never have to spend any money on shampoo, conditioner, soap or body gel for the next couple of years. That's a fact that I'm both sheepish and proud of.
