For my 21st birthday four or so years ago, I decided to highlight my hair with "caramel" streaks. I had visions of Jessica Alba circa Into the Blue. My then-hairdresser was unsure. She used the words "Pepe le Pew" and "skunk stripes" to discourage me. But I persisted. I was going to be bloody Jessica Alba, dammit. Or as near to it as I could get!
I kept the colour for about two years. Then frankly, I got sick of it. I wasn't high maintenance enough to maintain such high maintenance hair. Last week, I got the last of the regrowth chopped off and I am back to my natural hair colour. It was fun while it lasted. But now I'm happy with what I've been given. How many people can say that!

Award time! Thank you so much Cheryl, Christina and Diana for these awards. It makes me feel so appreciated when these come my way. I'd especially like to point out Diana's "You're a Great Read" award which she designed herself. If only all librarians looked like that young lady, there'd be more boys reading I'm sure!♥Location: Oriental Bay, Wellington ♥

Beautiful delicate dress! We should all have fun with our hair. Besides it grows out. I used to be.....blond LOL! Boy was that expensive to maintain.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos as always.
ReplyDeleteI have mousey brown hair and dyed it pretty much continuously aged 14 to 26. As a teenaer, i had ginger henna'd hair, then i moved onto blond hihlights. I went blonder and blonder (it's addictive), until eventually i decided to row them out. A horrible 4 months passed in which I looked ridiculous, then there was enough brownness there for it to look ok. I had the last of the highlights chopped off about a year ago. Every now and then I get the urge to dye again, but then I remember the horrible growing out process and desist.
You hair colour is lovely though, I wish I had nice dark hair like that!
haha that's funny that it took around 4 years before you went back to ur natural color. I can relate also. In highschool i went through a phase where I wanted blondish/light brownish streaks. Then i went thru the opp. phase where i wanted to dye my hair jet black, but my sister was like, no that's such a typical emo thing to do. so that never happened. but yeah, as of now, I have no desire to dye/highlight my hair.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Diana's award great? I have to remember to pass it along soon :)
ReplyDeleteThe colors in your photos are fantastic -- so bright & cheerful. I hope they helped brighten your winter day. You look gorgeous, Ms. Ana. That dress! Those boots! ♥
Your hair looks great. I really like your natural color. I used to put blond highlights in my hair from about age 12 - 14. Looking back at pictures I often shudder at how atrocious I looked. When I was 14 I dyed my hair brown to get rid of the highlights, but cried when it came out nearly black. So, back to the highlights I went, but to a more golden-honey brown to help bring back my natural color. In my late teens I played with caramel highlights once or twice and for about 4 years or so I've been coloring my hair every so often with a dye called "cinnamon stick." My hair shimmers a cinnamony-red when I'm in the sunshine. The other plus is that it fades into my natural color almost flawlessly.
Such a cute outfit! Love your hair! The bright colors in these photos are amazing.
ReplyDeleteit took me a while to learn to love my very dark lack of highlights hair but i love not having to maintain any sort of color. it's a lot cheaper too.
ReplyDeletei'm off to check out these other blogs you've linked...i know they'll be great.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ana! I love awards, and it's an even bigger love when it's from someone as amazing as you.♥
ReplyDeleteThe lace detail on your dress is gorgeous! Always such inspiring outfits. Your photos by the bay are beautiful. Boat names are always of interest. I very much relate to your highlights experience too, I did a similar thing about 6 years ago. I had them only for a summer and it took forever to get to my natural color. Growing out periods are such a drag :)
Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!xo♥
those beach huts are the perfect photo background :-D
ReplyDeletelovely photos! your natural hair colour looks great! =D

haha skunk reference is so funny :) love your outfit and the top is so great! xx
ReplyDeletenice beach theme, that is a sweet white dress, it really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI have the blackest of the black filo hair and im tempted to dye it dark brown (karen o style) so my face doesnt looks so white but who can bothered constantly touching it up and redying.true?
anyway, thankyou(x3) for the love, my first awards ever, so nice of you, i feel all shy now.
you look so beautiful here! these are great pictures!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress!!
ReplyDeletei remember two years ago id force my hair stylist to color my hair jet black. now am lighter, i feel lighter.
ReplyDeletei love the white dress. so cute on you.
my, don't you look pretty! Love the photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteyoure pretty. do you have an a filipino blood? half filipino maybe?
ReplyDeleteI so know how you feel. I streaked my hair a while back and I've been waiting forever for it to grow out so I can get it cut off. I still have about 4 inches of it left, and my hair grows excruciatingly slow! *fall* Okay, enough complaining; WOW I WANT YOUR DRESS! I've never been into witchery, I should go for a nosy one day.
ReplyDeleteMy gosh - you have such a lovely blog!! How have I not stumbled upon this glorious place before?
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit && the location - well that just speaks for itself doesn't it?
Expect many more visits from me!

Pretty dress, I love white colour ;-))
ReplyDeleteyou didn't back up when he said "pepelepew"? I admire your courage, girl! Nevertheless, looking great now!
ReplyDeleteamazing dress! and i love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks really good like this, I recently also made the chop. I had bleached blond hair a couple of years ago, and when i dyed it back to brown the colour on the ex-blond hair would be kind of dull and dead. Now that part of my hair had grown out to just over shoulderlength so I decided to just get rid of it. How it's all healthy and it's such a relief!
Your hair is adorable! It looks so soft and pretty and frames your face nicely. :)
ReplyDeleteI once dyed my hair red and regretted it - I was so happy the day I was finally able to cut the last bit of red off!
You have beautiful hair and you look great in this dress :-)
ReplyDeleteI had a very similar occurrence. Blonde streaks in brown hair that have turned to copper and are slowly growing out. Love the pictures!
ReplyDeletethanks! beautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteyour hair is such a wonderful color. And that dress is so wonderful and pretty

very pretty dress. I like your hair that natural color.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so cool! The detail on it is amazing and almost nautical, so it fits well with the gorgeous setting. I love the chain on your bag!
ReplyDeleteI had green streaks in my hair for awhile which was fun while it stayed bright, but once it faded to green-ish bleached streaks, I was glad to see it grow out. I'm all for natural hair.
I am in love with the bag...yet in my country (Greece), tights during that period are so off season..!!! Is it cold there?
ReplyDeleteYour dress is so dreamy and flirty and fun!....love it with the tights!
