Why oh why oh why Glassons buyer would you buy these beautiful dresses in a heinous, unflattering, cheap fabric like polyester/nylon/elastane mix? For petes sakes. The fabric is so weighty that it drags down and across your body rather than skimming it. This is a terrible combination for a real female's body, particularly a female who has the nerve to have breasts, hips and a tummy. And let's not mention the awkward no-mans-land placement of the waist - do you want an empire line or is this a poor attempt at a high waist? why put it somewhere vaguely in the middle? *rips hair out in frustration* anyway if you are lucky enough not to worry about looking like a stuffed sausage in a dress made of poorly-thought out fabric - you'll find these in store now at Glassons. This learns me to ask too much of a clothing company which may or may not source its clothes from factories in China with labour standards that breach the ILO. If only the fabric choice was better I would gladly spend the money I don't have on all three of these puppies and tell everyone about it!

In other news, I wore one of my Savemart finds to work. I'm super pleased with its plaid, embroidered, faux-pearl button goodness. No polyester/nylon/elastane mix here. Just polyester :D

I actually tried that dress in the middle, but in blue, not purple, and I looked like a confused smurf :(
ReplyDeleteThanks ana! Boy am I glad to be done wih exams - talk about a period of real oppression.
ReplyDeleteUgh, glassons. I have issues with that place too, their sizing is incredibly inconsistent and they produce some pretty heinous cuts too, definately not friendly for girls with small bust and decollatages that aren't half a mile long. Skirt lengths aren't that great either... I have to alter anything I get from there.
Anyways, adoring all the feminine touches you put on that outfit! I never thought pink and brown went together but I am now enlightened!
My Glassons expectations are pretty low, I was quite impressed at the floral tea-dresses and a few of the other pieces they put out last season, but now we're back to the terrible cuts, fabrics and colours again. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYou look rather sweet, I particularly like what the addition of the white scarf adds to the look.
Oh this frustrates me too! I try to pay a lot more attention to the quality of garments now.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I love your style! I really like this top with the pearl buttons. :)
Cute look. There are so many dresses like those in shops that I see and think "this would only look go on a model." :(
ReplyDeleteYou have such pretty tops! It goes so well wit the skirt.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty colours! I love the pink with the grey, and that top has such lovely detailing!

Hi everyone!
ReplyDeletethe romantic apple: i think i had a knock to the head thinking purple would look good on me. hehe confused smurf hehe - you should change your blogger name to that ;)
marcella: exams are like this huge burden on your back. you just can't have fun when you know they're hanging round like a bad smell. and I'm so pleased that Glassons is generally just terrible for all sorts of body types! it's not just me - thank goodness. and the skirt is more grey than brown - that teaches me to play around with the saturation tool hehe but i think pink and brown could go together if treated carefully!
louise: the tea dresses were lovely weren't they? except wellington's just not a tea dress place - which meant there were plenty left for me!
i.d.: i sometimes think it's almost impossible to find a nice cut, in a nice style, in a nice fabric in chain stores for under $30-$40 dollars!
the clothes horse: yes i think that too. except i live in hope and i try to stuff myself in it to my anguish. hehehe.
yiqin: well that's nice coming from you since I think you have the best selection of cute tops around!
emily rose~loves cheerios: i was surprised with the pink and grey combo too. and just like you the embroidery and little touches are my favourite things about the top.
I hope you all had a great day!
Glassons' cuts always trouble me. They are puzzling. I wonder if they see them on real people before they manufacture them?
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics put me off too, but not as much as the fact that every single other person in Christchurch will have bought the same item and will invariably be wearing it on the same day as me. :)
Hehe - i've sort of struck it lucky with Glassons in that the stuff that I want nobody else does! So i buy it full price and then a couple of weeks/months later it'll be languishing half price in the sale racks, untouched and unwanted. But I'm glad all you NZ bloggers seem to agree that Glassons needs to step its game up. it can't keep catering to nubile 12 to 14 year olds forever!!
