I had such an enormous weekend - bowling, karaoke till 3:30 am, iskender at Cuba Kebabs, celebrities the game, birthday party, jumble sale - that you must forgive me for taking a day off posting on Sunday. For my sins, here are some truly stupid photos of me during karaoke in a neon private booth and wearing heinous bowling shoes - hurray!

The most fashion-related activity I indulged in during the weekend was the Great Eclectic Jumble Sale in Newtown. A vintage store owner brought a truckload of her goodies from the South Island and unleashed it on the public in a draughty old community hall in Newtown. Nothing but class. With prices ranging from 50 cents to a maximum of $25, there were hour long queues, children inadvertently knocked over, elbows out, and madness madness madness.

Unfortunately, due to being at karaoke until 3:30 am and then eating iskenders at Cuba Kebabs till 4 am the night before, I was in no fit state to be up and at 'em at the heinous 9 am time of opening. I stumbled in at 10:30 am and paid for it - racks were gutted, lines were long, women were irate. Despite the many adversities I faced, I still managed to emerge with a sack full of stuff - beautiful hand-embroidered shirts from the 60s, costume jewellery, delicately embroidered linen, a lace purse from the 50s, a magic as-new pair of vintage shoes, and a 60s trapeze dress.

A few of my mother's finds - sheer silk gloves, a beautifully beaded vintage bag, a diamante belt/head wrap.

I was pleasantly surprised that the majority of clothes, linen, manchester and accessories on sale were true vintage finds i.e. things belonging from the 70s back, rather than merely second-hand goods i.e. things belonging from the late 80s forward. Forgive me if this division seems ambiguous. But I've always thought this was a sensible, if crudely general, way to divide between vintage versus secondhand/op shop goods. Feel free to disagree :) I wear my two favourite finds below. This outfit is for my parallel life as a 60s variety show hostess.
